Click here for the download page of the updated ctopher SolidWorks material database library.
Have you ever needed a material database that has more than the standard materials that comes with SolidWorks? Over the past eight years I have created solid models for military and commercial designs that required accurate 3D models to send to our customers for weight and FEA analysis.I have weighed the actual against the calculated weight from SolidWorks and the parts were very accurate, 98-100% accurate. Major aerospace companies were pleased.I created my own material database based on the materials used in these industries; it is available on my site for free download: Materials.[Updated 9/2016 ML]
Sometime in the near future, I plan on expanding the material database to include materials requested by other SolidWorks users and friends. [Update 9/2016 is now available at the link above. ML]
ctopher,
Add a direct link to the materials database into your blog post. Will make it easier for your readers to get to it.
You guys are doing great. I love the content and the perspective.
Cheers,
Anna
The direct link to the download page (CAD Tips) is here: http://home.roadrunner.com/~zoerme/ctopherCADtips.html
I’d just like to add that I also host ctopher’s material database on my own resources site, where it has been the number one download of all time for much of this year. Thank you, Chris for putting the time into making this database and making it available to everyone!
Thanks Anna for your suggestion. Sorry, forgot to add the link.
fcsuper, thanks for adding the link. 😉
I think too much info for SolidWorks users has a cost to it. If we can make more of it available for free, it would be a better product for all of us.
sah-weeet! I’m in aircraft and this is going to come in very useful. We’ve had to build out own database in excel and pull it into solidworks. this will make it easier to port it over. thanks.
Hi,

How can i get steel material library for solidworks 2009.
There is steel in the library listed here for download. Although it indicates SW 2008, it will work in 2009 and 2010.
THank you Christopher! Your material file made my research easier.Good on you! 🙂
Is there a wood section in this database? if not will there be an update anytime soon with one?
Sorry, no wood. Although I have worked on some wood and other materials, I have been too busy to finish them. I need to try to work on them this coming year. Thank you.
Is there a database available for extra steel materials? For example; i need the P265GH structural steel. i can’t find it anywhere. Als not the american equivalent. There are much more steel types i cannot find in SW. Do i have to add them by myself or is there a material database to download/buy?
Sorry, I don’t have that material. Matweb has an option to buy. http://www.matweb.com/
Hi ctopher, hope you´re having a good time 🙂
I was making the design of a room I´m building in my house, but I needed a concrete material to do the forces analysis but I can´t find it. Also, I tried to download your material database, but the explorer didn´t find the server. I got this message on the explorer window: “Not Found The requested URL /ctopher_matls_070508_sw2008.zip was not found on this server.”
Please help me, and thank you 🙂
Hello Javier,
I tried the download and it works fine here. Maybe try again? I do not have concrete in the material list.
Thanks!
Can you please add material “EN42J Steel” in the material library and update it?
I can in next couple months. I’m waiting to upgrade to SW 2013. Do you have the material data? Thanks.
thnx for share. 😉

is really a nice article, keep it up.
An outstanding share! I have just forwarded this onto a co-worker who was conducting a little
homework on this. And he in fact ordered me dinner
simply because I found it for him… lol. So let me reword this….
Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanx for spending the time to discuss this subject here
on your internet site.
You’re very welcome. What did you have for dinner??
